Jimmy Saunders received his veterinary degree from
Liège in 1993. After spending one year in research on magnetic resonance
imaging of the canine elbow joint, he undertook an alternative
residency program in diagnostic imaging. During his training period, he
gained the Certificate in Veterinary Radiology (CertVR) of the Royal
College of Veterinary Surgeons. In 1999, he became Diplomate of the
European College of the Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (ECVDI). Jimmy
then joined the Ghent University, where he studied for a PhD on
‘Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging of canine nasal
aspergillosis’ (defence in 2003). In 2011 he became chair of the Study
Programme Committee of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and since 2015
he is Head of the Department of Veterinary Medical Imaging and
Orthopaedics of Small Animals.
He is a past-President of the
European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging Jimmy co-edited, with
his friend Tobias Schwarz, the first veterinary book on computed
tomography of all species entitled ‘Veterinary Computed Tomography’. He
has authored more than 220 peer-reviewed articles on imaging matters and
has promoted 14 PhD students. Jimmy was elected as the President of
EBVS in April 2017.
